Dear readers of Your Family History,
Following a recent box-out in that interesting and valuable magazine, we would like to welcome you to our website, and to the Family and Colonialism Research Network!
The FCRN is a new forum which aims to connect historians and other academics working on colonial family history with archivists and librarians who use and manage relevant collections, and members of the interested public whose enthusiastic engagement with their own family history is an inspiration to us all! It is our hope that such a series of relationships will be mutually beneficial to everyone involved – connecting archivists and librarians with the people who use their collections, keeping academics abreast of innovations in the world of genealogy and family history, and helping the public flesh out their family trees with information, context and life.
Please take some time to explore our burgeoning website, which can be navigated through the sidebar on the left, and through the banner at the top of the page. As you can see, the site is packed full of useful information, on archival collections, databases, websites and upcoming events. It is also a place to share information, be it a family story, a blog or a book review.
We are particularly interested in your family stories, and are eager to hear from you about your experiences of tracing your colonial family history. If you would like to contribute a Family Story to our site, please do get in touch with us at Colonial.Families@gmail.com and we will be delighted to post it for you.
We are also compiling a list of members. If you would like to join the network, and receive regular updates on the site’s activities, upcoming events and new online resources, please do drop us a line at the above email address.
We look forward to hearing from you, and enjoy!
