Can you help? Historians seek information about unknown objects

The East India Company at Home, 1757-1857 project today announced that it is launching a new initiative titled the ‘Unknown Objects’ series. The series seeks your help in finding out more about specific persons, places and things which the project team (and even the experts who study them) know very little. The project team is confident that the series will enable them to find new information and new leads. Eventually they hope that these ‘Unknown Objects’ will become ‘Known Objects’ and will be used in The East India Company at Home, 1757-1857 project.

The project’s first ‘Unknown Object’ was nominated by Advisory Board Member Dr Viccy Coltman who is Senior Lecturer and Head of History of Art at the University of Edinburgh. Viccy nominated ‘A Portrait of a Young Indian Woman’ by Sir Henry Raeburn. To find out more go to the ‘Unknown Objects’ page on The East India Company at Home, 1757-1857 website.
